Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about dry salt therapy, choosing and using a halogenerator, salt, cleaning, warranty and returns.
Halotherapy, also called dry salt therapy, means relaxing in air that carries microscopic particles of pure, dry sodium chloride. A halogenerator grinds pharmaceutical-grade salt into a fine dry aerosol and disperses it into an enclosed space, recreating the salt-filled air of natural salt caves at home, in a spa, or in a sauna.
How halotherapy worksA halogenerator is the machine that makes halotherapy possible. It grinds dry, pharmaceutical-grade salt into a fine aerosol and uses a fan to spread it evenly through a sealed room, tent, or booth. Salt Therapy Association standards call for particles of 5 microns or smaller; HaloTherapyPRO units produce 1–5 microns, with most below 1 micron.
Compare our halogeneratorsNo. A room lined with Himalayan salt bricks, or a salt lamp, is a passive setup: it can look beautiful and feel calming, but it does not put breathable salt particles into the air. Only an active space, where a halogenerator disperses dry salt aerosol, delivers halotherapy as the salt therapy industry defines it.
Salt therapy began in the salt mines of Eastern Europe, where miners were noted for their healthy breathing. In 1839 Dr. Feliks Boczkowski opened a health resort at the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. In 1985 researchers in Odessa built the first halogenerator, bringing salt-mine air above ground, and halotherapy spread worldwide after 1991.
Read the full historyMatch the model to your space. The Lite Edition covers enclosed spaces up to 144 sq ft, including pop-up tents. The compact PRO and X Editions, and the Pink Edition, cover enclosed spaces up to 225 sq ft. The Lite Edition, our entry-level model, uses a slightly quieter fan and standard grinder; PRO, X and Pink use a high-performance fan and upgraded grinder and are great in small spaces too, with room to expand. The X Edition has a covered control panel; the others have exposed controls. The Sauna PRO mounts outside an infrared sauna or salt booth and feeds dry salt in through a wall pipe.
How to choose a halogeneratorThe X Edition has a covered control panel that keeps settings out of customers' view. This helps discourage unwanted adjustments during sessions while staff can still open the cover and change settings when needed.
No. The X, PRO and Pink Editions share the same upgraded salt grinder and high-performance fan. The main difference is the X Edition's covered control panel.
Yes. The X Edition is especially well suited to spas and wellness businesses, and it works just as well in a home salt room if you prefer the controls covered.
Yes, with the Sauna PRO. It mounts on the outside wall of your infrared sauna or salt booth, so the electronics stay out of the heat, and delivers dry salt through its integrated Salt Pipe using a single 3-inch wall opening. You can run sessions with the sauna heater on or off.

About HaloTherapyPROThe HaloTherapyPRO is built with longevity in mind. The device is engineered to fully seal all internal electronics from the salt chamber, preventing corrosion and moisture from reaching sensitive components — one of the most critical design considerations for any device that works with salt daily. The result is a unit that is built to withstand years of consistent use. Paired with simple after-session maintenance (a quick blow-out with an air duster), your HaloTherapyPRO is designed to be a long-term investment in your wellness — not something you'll be replacing anytime soon.
Setup is plug-and-play — no installation or tools required. Simply place the device in your chosen space, add 1 teaspoon of the included FREE HaloTherapy Salt, plug it into a standard outlet, and set your session timer. You're ready to go in under 5 minutes.
Professional salt therapy spas typically run sessions of 30–45 minutes in large, open salt rooms shared with multiple people. Because the HaloTherapyPRO is used in a small, sealed environment — a tent or dedicated room — the salt concentration builds much faster, making 10–20 minutes all you need to achieve a comparable therapeutic effect. For general wellness and prevention, we recommend 2–3 sessions per week. For specific conditions like allergies or asthma, daily use may provide the best results. Since it is a natural therapy, you cannot overdose on dry salt therapy — it's one of the key advantages of at-home halotherapy: more effective sessions in a fraction of the time and cost.
Each session uses approximately one teaspoon of HaloTherapy Salt — and every HaloTherapyPRO ships with FREE HaloTherapy Salt included so you can start right away. For extended sessions, simply add more as needed. For ongoing use, we recommend keeping a supply of HaloTherapy Salt on hand. Replacement HaloTherapy Salt is available on our website.

In a smaller enclosed space, sessions as short as 10–20 minutes are highly effective — the concentrated salt air works quickly. That said, you're welcome to run sessions as long as you prefer. We recommend pairing the device with a plug-in countdown timer (available in our Recommended Products section) to automatically cut power when your session is done so you can simply set it and relax.
The HaloTherapyPRO disperses ultra-fine micronized salt particles into the air, which means those particles will settle and coat surfaces in the space it's used in. For this reason, it's designed to be used in a dedicated, sealed environment — a pop-up privacy tent or a room set aside specifically for salt therapy (up to 225 sq ft). Using it in a general living space like a bedroom or living room is not recommended. A smaller, enclosed environment also produces a higher salt concentration, making each session more effective.
We recommend running a session 10–20 minutes before bed rather than while you sleep. This clears your airways and allows the benefits — quieter breathing, less congestion, deeper REM sleep — to carry through the night. Leaving the device running unattended for extended periods is not recommended.
Many customers use the HaloTherapyPRO to help reduce congestion and open airways, which can contribute to quieter, more restful sleep and may help with snoring. It is not a treatment for sleep apnea. If you have a diagnosed sleep disorder, consult your physician before use and continue any prescribed treatments.
The HaloTherapyPRO should only be used in a dedicated, sealed space — a pop-up privacy tent or a room set aside specifically for salt therapy. Do not run it in an open bedroom, living room, or any general living area, as the micronized salt particles will disperse and settle on furniture, electronics, and surfaces throughout the room. Once you're in the right space, place the device anywhere convenient, keep all doors and windows closed, and let the salt particles fill the entire environment.
Himalayan pink salt, Dead Sea salt, and table salt all contain trace minerals and impurities that should not be inhaled. Only 99.99% pure pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride (NaCl) ensures a clean, safe therapeutic experience for your airways.
After each session, use an electric air duster to blow out any salt residue from the fan. That's all — no water, no disassembly, no deep cleaning required. If you're storing the device for an extended period, keep it in a cool, dry place away from humidity to prevent any internal salt from absorbing moisture.
Halotherapy has been clinically studied as a complementary support for respiratory conditions including asthma, bronchitis, and COPD. However, it is not a medical treatment and should not replace prescribed medications or your doctor's guidance. Always consult your physician before beginning any new health regimen, especially if you have a diagnosed respiratory condition.
Yes. If your space accommodates it — such as a small room up to 225 sq ft — multiple people can benefit from the same session simultaneously. For those without a dedicated salt therapy room, we recommend a pop-up tent — you'll find our Portable Pop-Up Halotherapy Tent on our website, though any suitable sealed tent will work just as well.
See the pop-up tentThe HaloTherapyPRO comes with a 1-year comprehensive manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Damage caused by moisture exposure or misuse is not covered. If you have a warranty claim, contact us directly and we'll make it right.
Due to the nature of our products and for health, safety, and quality assurance reasons, we are unable to accept returns once an order has shipped. This policy helps ensure that every customer receives a brand-new, unused HaloTherapyPRO product.
If your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us within 7 days of delivery. We will work with you promptly to repair, replace, or resolve the issue under our warranty and support policies.

The HaloTherapyPRO should not be used or stored in an environment where humidity exceeds 55%. For best results and to protect the device, keep humidity below 55%. If humidity rises above this level during a session, power off the device, clean it with an air duster and a dry towel, and resume use only once humidity has returned to a safe level. This is why sealed tents and dedicated salt therapy rooms are ideal environments — steam rooms or any high-humidity space should always be avoided. After each session, use an air duster to blow out any unused salt from the bowl and fan to prevent humidity from causing it to cake onto the surfaces.
